Elkhart, Ind. Kem Krest has been named INAPSE Employer of the Year, an annual award presented by the Indiana chapter of the Association of People Supporting Employment First. The award recognizes one organization statewide for its commitment to inclusive employment practices. More than 30 companies were considered for this honor.
The recognition highlights Kem Krest’s partnership driven employment program developed in collaboration with ADEC (A Life of their own, Dignity, Employment, and Community), a nonprofit organization that supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and aligns with the Employment First mission advanced by APSE. Launched in 2024, the program is designed to create meaningful job opportunities by serving as an entry point to employment, offering structured, lower complexity work that allows participants to ease into fulltime roles while building skills, confidence, and independence.“The Kem Krest Internship has been truly transformative for the individuals we serve through ADEC’s Skills and Training Program,” said Zach Bracker, Employment First Manager at ADEC. “Through this partnership, participants are gaining more than job skills. They are building confidence, independence, and a clear vision for their future in the workforce. Kem Krest has created an environment where individuals with disabilities are not only included but genuinely valued as essential members of the team. To date, 12 individuals have successfully completed the internship, each leaving with the skills and experience needed to pursue meaningful, competitive employment.”
“It’s such a joy to work with ADEC and their team,” said John Watson, Operations Associate Director at Kem Krest. “The pride they take in their work gives us peace of mind that tasks are completed accurately and at rate, but that’s only a small part of the story. The joy they bring to the building is what truly stands out. Their can-do attitude, determination, and constant smiles are infectious, instantly uplifting our culture. Morale is always high around the ADEC team. I make a point to stop in and chat whenever I can. After the smiles, fist bumps, and hugs, it’s impossible to have a bad day.”
“Working with ADEC has been a wonderful experience, and each individual has brought something special to the team,” said Gabby Fuentes, Associate Human Resources Business Partner at Kem Krest. “We truly value their spirit, smiling faces, and upbeat attitudes as they get the work done. You can see and feel the joy it brings to be a part of the team. It is more than a partnership. They are part of the Kem Krest family.”
Kem Krest’s program was developed in close collaboration with ADEC, whose mission focuses on increasing workforce participation for individuals with disabilities. Proximity based roles, predictable processes, and strong cultural alignment have been key factors in the program’s success. ADEC’s nearby resource center, established prior to the launch of the program, has further supported participants and strengthened the partnership.
Kem Krest looks forward to continuing its partnership with ADEC for years to come, working together to create meaningful employment opportunities and foster an inclusive workplace.
