THE Challenge
Building a plan to manage new tariffs with short notice.
On October 25, 2023, U.S. producers requested Anti-Dumping (AD) and Countervailing Duty (CVD) tariffs on imported aluminum. The tariffs posed two unique challenges for importers. First, liability was based on the production process, covering a wide range of components and subcomponents. Second, the tariff started six months after the petition date, giving importers little time to prepare or find alternatives.
OUR APPROACH
On-staff experts in sourcing, compliance, and customs jump into action.
When the petition was filed, Kem Krest acted quickly. We immediately notified customers who might be affected. Then, we worked with suppliers to gather newly required information, such as the manufacturer’s mill certificate. Finally, we fully managed the declaration process for every component and subcomponent in question.
THE RESULT
Avoiding fees and delays to maintain sales momentum.
By providing proper documentation and evidence, we proved that certain components and subcomponents were not subject to the tariffs, avoiding millions of dollars in unnecessary fees and delivery delays. Due to our quick response, customers continued selling products smoothly and without raising prices.
